Now, Now [2012] Threads

I didn’t know much about this band aside from their catchy and wonderful Neighbors ep from 2010, so I was pretty excited to see this album pop out of nowhere. Now, a little introduction: Now, Now (formerly Now, Now Every Children) is a female fronted indie rock band from Minnesota who manage to produce a reverb drenched dreamy indie rock with even dreamier and somber vocals. It is this formula that keeps the ears perked from start to finish with Threads, for just when you get comfortable you are flung into a dense sea of noise and just when you don’t think you can take any more you are placed back into a peaceful place with Cacie’s adorable vocals relaxing you to a catchy drum beat and faint melodic guitarwork. There is a great deal of diversity on this album as well, for some indie rock bands of this nature find a working formula and just do it over and over for every song, but this album features songs that stick out from one another and rely only on their perfect blend of reverb to make everything come out truly enjoyable. Production wise this album is a bit denser than the Neighbors ep to me, for there are moments on this album where a soft post-rocky relaxation part erupts into into utter overdrive with dueling walls guitars and (what appears to be) bass cascading through the vocal harmonies and crashing drum work. The synth/key work on here is also pretty fun, and while it is not a major component of all of the songs, it definitely adds a delicious flavor to the overall album.

Complaints? Not really. The only one I have is that on the track “Thread” there is an unusually loud keyboard section that kind of drowns out every other piece of the song, and every time this happens I just sit and wait for the big bad piano man to go away so I can get back to the music. Other than that I truly like this album and it will definitely get additional plays from me, I am extremely happy that I found out about this release.

SHIT RATING: GOOD
