Cavities [2012] 64 Years

Another random download courtesy of Bandcamp. I really liked the album cover and was expecting something crusty but turns out Cavities is a chaotic hardcore trio from Pennsylvania. Much like bands before them in the realm of melodic hardcore, (i.e. Shai Hulud, Have Heart, maybe a little Verse) and they do it really well. The guitar work is interesting and steers away from being repetitive or predictable and the drums fit just as they should. Vocally speaking the singer fits within the spectrum of what melodic hardcore, or even 2000+ hardcore sounds like. So if you’re into this style of music or the bands listed before, odds are you’ll enjoy it and not be left with a bad taste in your mouth or a feeling of boredom.

Complaints? As far as complaints go, Cavities do not really go out and accomplish anything that is not already done. I mean melodic hardcore has been around long enough that bands can branch out and do their own thing, but I just feel like this band would be lost in the sea of other similar bands and would not be recognizable. It’s nothing against the music, I just got my fill of this music a long time ago and if I wanted to listen to this style I’d just put on the bigger acts who created and shaped the style, that’s all. Again, the music is fun, I enjoyed it and I can’t find anything wrong with the release, it’s just not something I really feel compelled to listen to these days.
